Height plays important role in many sports because certain heights are advantageous for successful results in the games. Tall heights offer greater absolute strength and greater work capacity to the players while playing both single or team games. Tall height sports require men and women to have a lower heart rate and lower resting metabolic rate. Height gives the sportsmen better sprint due to longer strides. Certain games require greater visibility of the opponents and height adds to the same with greater power in muscles because of lesser dehydration. Tall people do more work per unit of time during play and greater speed and power due to increased mechanical advantage.
- Amateur wrestling
Tall height can be both a privilege and detrimental in wrestling. Longer arms allow them a longer reach and easy cradle but at the same time long legs prove detrimental in that they can easily be caught by the opponent. However, they do assist in sprawling and throwing activities.

This game prefers shorter heights.

In soccer, player’s height determines the position where they play. Goalkeepers, centre backs and “target heading” are usually taller while player in wide position, central position and attacking positions are usually short height.
This game prefers taller players as it gives larger strike zone as larger frame allows to generate more power.
Tall players are preferred in the game of basketball because their shorts easily reach to the target basket. They rebound balls easily with ability for higher air shots.
Sports of Bodybuilding prefers shorter height players because shorter range of motion is required to lift weights.
The game of cricket has seen both tall and average height players as successful.
Road cyclists can be of all heights but their heights determine their excellence:
- Taller cyclists excel at the cobbled classics.
- Cyclist as tall as 6 feet 3 inches cycle better in hilly areas.

Height is not so important in this sports, however it is seen that tall heights are disadvantageous in the game.
Rugby Union has lineout jumpers as tallest players and scrum-halves are usually nearer to average height.
