It is surprising to know that height influences our destiny in ways we don’t even realize. Studies confirm that tall people are considered to be more dominant, intelligent and healthy, which automatically leads to earning more and leading more. There is no demeaning the short stature, but if you talk about the first impression being the lasting impression, taller men and women tend to have an edge there. What’s even more surprising is the fact that although height is correlated with the way our lives unfold, it is one biological factor that we can do very little about. Having said that, this very little that we can do can make a huge difference. It is very well known the deciding factor of one’s height is his/her genes but there are a number of other ways, incorporating which one can enhance their height.
There are several manuals and wonder pills which promise to increase height. It is always safer and healthy to follow the natural way to increasing the vertical stature. Before getting into the techniques, one must understand the theory behind height increase. Human Growth Hormones (HGH) in pituitary gland is responsible for the growth of our height. Pituitary gland is situated in the brain. There are several techniques to augment the production of the growth hormone- Proper diet, exercise, posture, sports, yoga, acupressure, and high quality sleep. Following a scheduled routine results in the increase of height. Each of these is correlated and hence skipping even one might delay the desired result. In this article, we will talk about yoga in context with increasing the height but again, this has to be performed along with other activitie
Yoga, an ancient form of exercise started in India, is different from other physical activities. It focuses on the holistic development i.e., it’s not just for the body but also for the bettering the spiritual self. Yoga helps to bust stress, which is one of the biggest restricting factors for the growth of the body. It releases the strain and tension on the back and spine thus promoting balance and flexibility. Yoga has proven to be useful in gaining proper posture, which stretches the spine. Therefore, yoga is seen as an all-round method to stay healthy and increase your height. Apart from the stretching and breathing techniques, yoga also offers hand postures also known as mudra to promote height gain. ‘Mudra’ is a Sanskrit word for gesture, symbol, and expression. Basically, the hand gestures or various mudras impact the flow of subtle energies. The idea is to balance out energy across our mind and body.
The whole universe comprises of five elements: air, earth, space, fire and water. Similarly, a human body holds energetic points, where each finger of our hand represents each element.
- Thumb represents space
- Index finger stands for air
- Middle finger holds the energetic point for fire
- Ring finger represents water
- Little finger represents earth
By positioning of one of the fingers and thumb, putting minute pressure, triggers healing process in the body. Every gesture taps into body-mind energy system as each part of the hand is linked to various parts of the brain responsible for different functions within our body. In order to gain height, one has to activate the pituitary gland to secrete growth hormone. Also, there are two other factors, which can inhibit the growth – indigestion and undernourishment of muscles and bones. Using hand mudra, one can achieve a balance in across all three factors.
Surya Mudra/Mudra of the Sun
This therapeutic mudra is essential in increasing height as well as in digestion. One has to touch the tip of the ring finger to the base of the thumb while exerting pressure on the finger with the thumb. While performing the mudra, certain sensation or vibration is felt which proves the presence of electromagnetic flow in the body. On applying pressure, energy is redirected to certain parts of the brain. This mudra should be practiced twice a day for 5-15 minutes. The other three fingers should be straight and while performing this mudra, one should have his/her spine straight by standing, sitting or lying. This mudra is beneficial in removing various imbalances by reducing anxiety and relieving depression.
As the name suggests, this mudra balances the water element in the body. The tip of the little finger has to touch the tip of the thumb. The other three fingers should be stretched out straight. This mudra is beneficial for stomach related problems. A healthy stomach is very essential for proper growth of the body. Varuna mudra prevents gastroenteritis related stomach pain and stops muscle shrinkage. It has proven to be effective in curing diarrhea, constipation or indigestion. This mudra can be practiced at any time of the day. People suffering with asthma or respiratory diseases should practice this for sort duration only.
Prithvi Mudra/Mudra of Earth
The tip of the ring finger has to be touched with the tip of the thumb. Significant pressure has to be applied while the rest of the fingers are stretched out straight. This improves blood circulation in the body and is beneficial in strengthening weak and lean bones. This can be done at any time of the day but it is preferable to practice in the morning. This can be combined with other yoga asana like padmasana for better result. Padmasana, also known as the Lotus position, is a cross-legged yoga posture. One has to sit on the floor with legs stretched out while the spine is erect. Slowly, the right knee is bent and kept on the left thigh. The heel of the feel should be closer to the abdomen while the sole should point upward. Similarly, place the left leg on the right thigh. The hands should be placed on the knees in the mudra position. Keeping the head and spine straight, one should continue long breaths in and out.
The tip of the middle finger and the tip of the thumb are brought together while the other fingers are casually stretched out. This mudra is responsible for removing blockades and stress related issues. Stress is known to cause obstacles and restrict the free flow of blood in the body thus creating imbalance in the body. Practicing this mudra will help remove the stress and retain the balance in the body. This is also beneficial in strengthening bones.
Mudras when combined with other physical activities and proper diet will address the physical concerns and prove to be advantageous. Mudras activate the energy in our hands thus activating the corresponding energy in the rest of the body and brain. This ancient form of fitness is subtle yet powerful and is an overall development of the body and mind.
